For Lakewood families, Tree Town Wonderland is right in your part of town, at Kipling and Hampden. No long drive, no mountain trip. Just a short ride and the holidays are waiting.
Start with a walk through 500,000 holiday lights. They glow across two acres of trees and buildings, they're free, and they're on every evening of the season.
On Santa's visit dates, the kids can tell him what's on their list, and visiting Santa is free. Mrs. Claus reads holiday stories too. On special dates, Santa brings his reindeer, and your family can see, feed and pet them.
Then comes the best part: walking two acres of fresh-cut trees until you find the one. Many families go straight for the Fraser Fir, with its soft needles and classic Christmas smell. But there are Noble, Nordmann, Douglas and Concolor Fir, Scotch and White Pine, and Colorado native trees to choose from too.
Being this close has its perks. The lights are free every night, so come back for another walk, or plan a second trip for a reindeer day. And Putter's Pride is right there, with 54 holes of mini golf open every day.
